Charlie Brooker's 2016 Wipe is a 'mockumentary' of some sorts that follows a traditional expository like format but puts a satirical spin on the subject matter.
It involves the narrator and creator Charlie Brooker, reacting to the news that has occurred in the year past. The show is structured in an essay style manner, along with an argument of sorts that tackles Charlie's Cynical nature and his some what optimistic side.
The speaker is semi-omniscient and also shown physically on screen, in order to create the illusion that he exists in the perspective of the world being shown. The Speaker still remains omniscient, to an extend, to make to audience believe in every word he says.
The footage will sometimes cut away to (fake) interviews to give an alternative perspective on the current affairs. This creates more variety in the show and will prevent the content from becoming boring.
The show uses medium tracking shots of the speaker to attract the audiences attention to the speaker directly. Slow tracking of the camera synchronises the pace of the editing and cinematography to that of the speed of the speaker's dialogue. This is vital to create coherency in the show.
This show is an example, from a technical perspective, on how to create a film documentary. Medium, slow tracking shots of the speaker and the use of interviews to break up content will be used the the documentary on grief. However, the humorous tone will not be used as this contrasts the tone of the subject matter and archive footage will not be used either as it would become complicated with copyright laws. Therefore, I will have to be inventive with what filler footage i can create to illustrate the speaker's points.
