Zine evaluation

What went successfully?

  • Concept of fear of technology had a solid inspiration from Charlie Brooker's list of shows such as 'Screen Wipe' and 'News wipe' on BBC.
  • The screen prints were simplistic, yet effective as they used single colours and minimal lines to visualise the message in each page.
  • The 'Rubber Hose' style of cartoons, suprisingly blended well with the house style, as they were coherent to the crude style of the zine.
  • The layout of the zine was a simple folding and cutting of A5 paper and stapling, which was appropriate for this project, as the zine would need to be reproducible by photocopying on a small budget.

How could you improve?

  • The early ideas resulted in more visual illustrations than typography. The zine would have been more successful if the pages were more diversified in their content. For example, There should have been more pages that contain photographs that have been altered to fit the subject matter.
  • Due to a lack of time, I was not able to complete all ten pages for the zine. This is because too much time was spent in ideas and not enough time was alotted for materials and processes and production.

How will this week impact your future work?

  • Better allocation of time for the whole design cycle.
  • Potential use of screen print for typography.
